Is Your Newborn Baby Sick? 7 Danger Signs Every Parent Must Know
Hello, parents. I am Dr. Mayur Kumar Goyal. I am a child doctor in Ajmer. I see many newborn babies and their parents in my clinic.
I know you love your baby very much. When your baby is sick, you feel very worried. This is normal. Today, I will tell you about 7 important danger signs. If you see these signs, you must call your child doctor in Ajmer quickly.
1. High Fever
- What to see: If your baby feels very hot.
- What to do: Use a thermometer. If the temperature is 100.4°F or more, it is dangerous for a small baby. Do not give any medicine. Call your doctor now.
2. Breathing Problems
Look for these signs:
- Fast Breathing: Baby's chest is moving up and down very fast.
- Noisy Breathing: You hear a strange sound when the baby breathes.
- Hard to Breathe: Baby is using too much force to breathe. You can see the skin between ribs getting pulled in.
If you notice severe breathing difficulties, this may require emergency pediatric services.
3. Baby is Too Weak or Too Sleepy
- Not Drinking Milk: Baby is not interested in feeding. Or baby is too weak to suck milk properly.
- Not Waking Up: Baby is sleeping too much and is very difficult to wake up. Baby feels limp like a rag doll.
4. Not Peeing Enough (Dehydration)
- Check Diaper: If there are less than 6 wet diapers in one day.
- Dry Mouth: Look inside baby's mouth. It should be wet. If it is dry, it is a bad sign.

5. Yellow Colour (Jaundice)
- What to see: The white part of baby's eyes turns yellow. Baby's skin also can turn yellow.
- When to worry: If the yellow colour is increasing and the baby is also not feeding well and is very sleepy.
Jaundice is one of the common newborn conditions we treat at our clinic.
6. Bad Vomiting
All babies spit up a little milk. But be careful if:
- The vomit is green in colour.
- Vomiting is very strong and shoots out far.
7. Blue Colour
- Where to see: Look at baby's lips and tongue.
- What it means: If they turn blue or grey, it means baby is not getting enough air. This is very serious.
This is a critical condition that requires immediate pediatric critical care.
